Basra Gateway Terminal nears completion of its New Deep Water Berths 25/26 at Um Qasr

IBBC member Basra Gateway Terminal is on track to complete its new deep-water berths 25/26 in Um Qasr at the end of October. This USD 250 million project includes installing new cranes capable of handling loads up to 60 tons, allowing BGT to handle significantly larger vessels and ensuring even quicker turn-around times. With this investment BGT is ready to support growth in Iraq to an even greater degree.

BGT would like to thank GCPI/IPA, all Governmental Authorities and its customers for all their support, which has allowed them to achieve this milestone ahead of schedule. In support of this initiative, GCPI have also lowered their port tariffs for large container vessels, making Um Qasr an even more attractive port.

The Inauguration will take place on Tuesday 22nd October 2019 at Berths 25/26 and all are welcome.

IBBC’s Managing Director Christophe Michels commented “Basra Gateway has been a staunch supporter of IBBC for some years now and is always keen to support development of the Um Qasr facilities to encourage trade between Iraq and the international community. We are looking forward to the positive improvement of these new facilities will provide to Iraq’s continued growth.”
