IBBC Autumn Conference in Dubai 25 Nov, Speakers Announced – Session 1 Logistics – Imports/Exports, People & Goods

IBBC has brought together experienced industry figures working in the Logistics sector in Iraq to discuss the key issues facing Imports/Exports, People & Goods in facilitating the reconstruction and rebuilding of Iraq’s economy.

Session Overview:

 

For a conference entitled “Delivering the Vision“ it is appropriate that there is strong focus on Logistics, a cornerstone of any economy but one of significant importance where regional and international considerations come into account and there is a range of high value and specialized imports and exports.

Over the next few years as Iraq rebuilds its economy, it will need to import most of the complex and high value elements needed for industry growth, some directly from country of origin, some via intermediary ports. Logistics operations are crucial to a modern economy, enabling the efficient forward and reverse flow of skilled labour and local and imported resources, moving by land, sea and air. As the economy grows and becomes more sophisticated so the demand for international expertise and local employment will grow, and throughout the process international standards will need to be adhered to and regional and international logistic patterns coordinated with.

The session will touch on major logistic projects already under construction at the ports of Faw and Umn Qasr, new and planned pipelines for importing and exporting oil and gas products and a rapidly expanding aviation sector to accommodate increasing passenger and freight numbers. As well as increasing computerisation and tech applications to increase speed and efficiency of operations.

Phillip Marsham is the CEO of Basrah Gateway Terminal (BGT). Phillip is responsible for both the Management of a state of the art terminal consisting of 6 berths in Umm Qasr Port, catering for containerized and Oil and Gas Cargoes, as well as the development of a 250 million USD private investment in Port Infrastructure bringing International Standards to the Iraqi Port Sector. Phillip has overseen the successful development of BGT – the first Public Private Partnership greenfield development in the Port Sector, and now handling over 40% of the containerized and project cargo transiting Umm Qasr.

Mike Douglas is the President & CEO of SKA International Group. SKA International Group is a trusted and leading world-class provider of aviation, logistics and fuel supply chain solutions specialising in unsecured and hostile environments. During the last 20 years Mr Douglas gained invaluable experience in setting up operational bases and establishing infrastructure in some of the most hostile areas of the world. He is responsible for taking SKA from a business plan to a multimillion dollar company currently employing over 600 people specialising in moving fuel, people and equipment safely in challenging environments. Mike is an operator who enshrines the company motto of ‘Doing Difficult Jobs in Difficult Places.’

Jason Sutcliffe is the Marketing Executive for the Middle East & Africa regions for Rolls Royce. Jason joined Rolls-Royce in 2006 as a Fleet Planner in the newly formed Operations Centre in Derby. After 3 years and following a 1 year secondment with Singapore Airlines, Jason undertook a position in East Hartford USA as the Customer Fleet Director with International Aero Engines (IAE), he was responsible for the day-to-day management of the V2500 engine fleet in the Middle East. In 2012 Jason returned to the UK to take up the position of Marketing Director for Rolls-Royce, playing a customer relationship role in both the Target and Sales phases. In 2017 Jason moved to the UAE as the Regional Marketing Executive for the Middle East & Africa. Prior to joining Rolls-Royce, Jason spent 19 years in the British Royal Air Force as an Aircraft Engineer.

Chris Pook is the Managing Director of G4S in Iraq, providing enabling security services to government and commercial clients across Iraq. G4S has provided Security Services at Baghdad International Airport since 2010. G4S is active in oil field security, and partners with Basrah Gas Company in Southern Iraq to provide mobile protective security. G4S has also recently won contracts with UNMAS, clearing IEDs and other explosive remnants of war from Mosul, Kirkuk and Sinjar. Chris has managed the G4S Iraq business through the turbulent years following the occupation of Mosul by IS in 2014 and the oil price challenges of 2015. Prior to his current role Chris was the Managing Director of G4S in Afghanistan.
