During February 2013 AMAR Foundation Executive Baroness Nicholson of Winterburne visited Domez Refugee Camp 10 kilometres from the Kurdish city of Dohuk close to the Iraq — Syria border. Baroness Nicholson wanted to see for herself the plight of Syrian Kurds who had fled fighting and economic hardship. More than 70,000 men, women and children are living in “tent cities.”
